In their first year, Bauhaus students learned the basic principles of color theory. In one lesson, they played with primary and secondary colors to understand their power and relativity, a dialectic reflected in these colorful earrings. It should be noted that Josef Albers (German-born American, 1888-1976) took these same principles and created an iconic series of paintings that deeply influenced modern art.
