Mary-Melinda Wellsandt work uses functional glass as a surface to explore. The process includes the use of a sandblaster to carve, and permanent paints, enamels (and other assorted mixed media) to render her original drawings, photos, and paintings in a very unique and clearly "high touch" way. The Storm in Blue series features a dramatic scene of leafy branches on a blue-to-grey gradient haze, reminiscent of a forest in a storm.
These works have been meticulously crafted by Mary-Melinda in her home/studio by her (a real person), with help from hardworking, talented and hilarious assistants (also real people), under the close supervision of a (very real) kitten. Every single piece is created one-at-a-time, and they go through at least 10 steps before they are completed.
