Unleash your inner artist with this sketchbook featuring Vincent van Gogh's (Dutch, 1853–90) Cypresses. The painting was executed in late June 1889, just after Van Gogh arrived at the asylum in Saint-Rémy. He was fascinated by the subject: "It's the dark patch in a sun-drenched landscape, but it's one of the most interesting dark notes, the most difficult to hit off exactly that I can imagine." The painting was exhibited at 1890 Salon des Indépendants and is one of two close-up views of the "very tall and massive" trees in a vertical format.
