About the Artist:

Ruth Napaljarri Stewart (born c. 1950) is a Warlpiri artist from the Mount Allan region of the Northern Territory. She was born near Coniston, about 75 km west of Yuendumu, and spent her early years travelling with her family between Yuendumu, Mt Wedge, Napperby Creek, and Mt Dennison. After completing school in Yuendumu, she worked in various community roles, including as a health worker at the Yuendumu Clinic and for the Yuendumu Council. Ruth has been painting with Warlukurlangu Artists since the 1980s, sharing stories and cultural knowledge passed down to her by her father. She is the younger sister of the late Paddy Japaljarri Stewart, a respected senior elder and artist from Yuendumu.
