    John James Audubon

    A naturalist, ornithologist, and painter John James Audubon (American, 1785-1851) is known for his extensive studies documenting all types of American birds and for his detailed illustrations that depicted the birds in their natural habitats, identifying 25 new species himself. His color-plate book, The Birds of America, is considered one of the most important books on birds every published.
