The Great Wave off Kanagawa is the most famous woodblock print by Katsushika Hokusai (Japanese, 1760–1849). It is his first print in his series Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji, which was published circa 1830. Hokusai depicts a dynamic wave which forms a circle framing Mt. Fuji in the distance. The beautiful Mt. Fuji is considered a sacred symbol of Japanese national identity. This necklace features a printed detail of The Great Wave with genuine lapis lazuli accents.
