Spindle Mudcloth Soapstone Mini Box

Hand-carved by Kenyan artisans from soft soapstone, this petite round box is finished with a black dye and etched with patterns inspired by the cultural traditions of Malian mudcloth. Mudcloth, or bògòlanfini, is an important textile in West Africa, often used in ceremonies and rituals. The black and white patterns, with their delicate white dots and lines, reflect a visual language that speaks to the importance of tradition and storytelling in African cultures. This piece serves as both a functional storage box and a reminder of Africa’s rich cultural heritage.
