About the Artist:
Gnarled pines and graceful weeping willows coexist in the evocative art of Korean artist Kyung-Hwa Yu (1983–2020). Yu created tree imagery that symbolizes longevity and transformation, key elements in learning how to thrive amid change. Whether worked with pastel delicacy or high-contrast intensity, her tree images represent peace and strength in the face of adversity. “I’ve lived all my life with my physical disability which caused me a lot of pain and suffering . . . I learned to love myself through drawing,” the artist once said. Her hope was that her works would inspire courage to overcome pain, to continue to follow one’s passion. Yu’s art reflects her contemplations—a peaceful conversation with Nature.
