Jeannie Pitjara (also known as Jeannie Petyarre) was an Anmatyerre artist born around 1951 in the Utopia region of the Northern Territory, Australia. Part of a renowned family of Aboriginal artists—including Emily Kame Kngwarreye and several sisters—Jeannie began her career with the Utopia Women’s Batik Group before transitioning to painting with acrylics on canvas. Her work is celebrated for its flowing, intricate depictions of Bush Yam and Bush Medicine Leaves, reflecting the plants’ cultural and spiritual importance to her people. Jeannie’s art has been exhibited nationally and internationally and is held in major collections such as the National Gallery of Australia, leaving a lasting impact on contemporary Aboriginal art.
