Lewis Mina Mina Tie is backordered and will ship as soon as it is back in stock.
This beautifully crafted tie, gift-boxed for a perfect presentation, showcases the work of artist Betsy Lewis, depicting the Dreaming story of Mina Mina. The painting reflects the journey of a group of women, including the Napangardi and Napanangka women, as they traveled eastward gathering food and performing ceremonies. Central to the design are the Karlangu (digging sticks) that emerged from the ground at Mina Mina, symbolizing the tools used by the women to collect Ngalyipi (snake vine) and other bush tucker along their travels. The traditional iconography in this piece brings to life the women’s sacred journey, making it a meaningful and distinctive accessory.

About the Artist:
Betsy Napangardi Lewis (c. 1940–2008) was a prominent Warlpiri artist known for her unique and abstract depictions of her cultural stories. Born at Kunajarryi, west of Yuendumu, she moved to Mount Doreen Station in her youth and later spent much of her life in Yuendumu and Nyirripi. A strong, yet caring woman, Betsy began painting in the 1990s and transitioned to full-time art in 1999, working with Warlukurlangu Artists. Her paintings, characterized by vibrant colors and dynamic movement, represent the sacred journeys of ancestral women, particularly the Mina Mina Dreaming. Betsy’s works explore both traditional themes and innovative techniques, and she exhibited extensively across Australia, leaving a lasting legacy as one of the key figures in contemporary Aboriginal art before her passing in 2008.
